Chris Cornell, the iconic articulation behind Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog, has died at senility 52. The vocalist had been on tour with Soundgarden in Detroit.
In a statement to the AP, Cornell’s rep Brian Bumbery called the death abrupt and surprising. He later told CNN that Cornell’s wife Vicky and family “were sickened to learn of his abrupt and surprising passing.” In an emailed explanation, the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office said it had determined that Cornell expired by suicide.
Cornell’s wife and family “would like to thank his love for their incessant love and allegiance and request that their privacy be respected at this time, ” Bumbery said.
